SCREENING QUESTIONS
When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential education and experience qualifications. It is your responsibility to provide clear and concrete examples in your responses to each question, including when (from-to), where (occupational title, organization) and how you obtained your education and experience. Transport Canada is looking for a Mechanic in Churchill, Manitoba to perform preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs and overhaul various airport related equipment, vehicles, and diesel powered generating plants. The main responsibilities will be to maintain and overhaul all fixed and mobile gasoline and diesel powered equipment and carry out heavy, light and small engine repairs, operate various types of heavy and light equipment in order to assess their operating condition, and carry out welding and machinist duties in the course of maintenance and repair activities. In addition, the candidate will create a routine service schedule to ensure proper equipment maintenance and source materials and supplies as required. This position will also assist with airport Bird & Wildlife control as well as airport operations when necessary.
The position will work directly at the Transport Canada owned Churchill Airport in Churchill, Manitoba. This position will work in a fully stocked mechanic’s bay and be part of a greater work unit at airport. The position will require the successful candidate to work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
The immediate intent of this process is to fill 1 GL-VHE-09 position on a permanent basis.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, assignment, secondment or acting opportunities) in Churchill, Manitoba within Transport Canada (TC).

OC: Possession of an interprovincial journeyman Heavy Equipment Repair Certificate.
EX1: Experience in diagnosing failure and in overhauling diesel and gasoline engines.
EX2: Experience in diagnosing failure and in overhauling hydraulic systems.
EX3: Experience in working with Microsoft Excel, Word Outlook, and MS Teams
EX4: Experience in reading and comprehension of complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic control drawing.
AEX1: Emergency Response experience.
AEX2: Experience using third party contracting/procurement.
AEX3: Experience in airport winter operations.
AEX4: Experience in airport Bird & Wildlife control.

Willingness and ability to wear CSA approved safety footwear and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP)
Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A).
Minimum Class 3 driver’s license with air brakes endorsement.
Availability and willingness to work overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays.

ASSESSMENT - GENERAL INFORMATION
Random selection, invoking asset qualifications may be used in conjunction with other volume management strategies that can be applied at any stage in the staffing process.
Candidates may be assessed using various methods, such as, but not limited to: submission of a video for screening purposes, written exam, phone, individual and/or group interview(s), simulation exercise and/or reference checks. Candidates may be required to make an oral presentation.
ASSESSMENT – REFERENCE CHECKS
Those selected for assessment should be prepared to provide the names and contact information of recent references (recent is defined as within the last 2 years):
References must be available, have an in-depth knowledge of your work/projects, and must be able to answer specific questions pertaining to your experience, achievements and strengths.
References that are not reachable and/or not available are lowering the candidates’ chances to be found fully qualified and be considered for appointment. When providing names of references, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they are available to respond in a timely manner.
ASSESSMENT – RESCHEDULING
Rescheduling will only be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required at the time of your request to be rescheduled.
Possible reasons for alternate assessment dates:
· Medical reason with doctor's certificate;
· Death in the immediate family;
· Professional obligation (proof required);
· Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans; or
· Religious reasons.
ASSESSMENT – TRAVEL EXPENSES
Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to evaluation purposes.
ISOLATED POST ALLOWANCE:
In addition to the hourly rate of pay, the positions in Churchill, MB are subject to an Environmental Allowance, Fuel and Utilities Differential, and a Living Cost Differential as per the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive (https://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/d4/en)
