Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Note:
1.The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience operating an Electron Probe Microanalyser (EPMA).
Experience performing quantitative X-ray microanalyses by Wavelength Dispersive Spectrometry (WDS) or Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS).
Experience in petrographic analyses of rocks.
Experience preparing technical and scientific reports.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of electron optics and electron-specimen interactions.
Knowledge of the operating principles of wavelength- and energy-dispersive spectrometers.
Knowledge of X-ray spectral measurement procedures, standard-based quantitative X-ray microanalysis methods and basic theory of matrix effect corrections.
Knowledge of mineral assemblages and microtextural and optical properties of common minerals.
ABILITIES:
Ability to provide technical guidance and instruction to scientific staff and students working in a lab.
Ability to supervise activities in a multi-user analytical facility.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience developing new analytical routines for an Electron Probe Microanalyzer to address geological questions.
Experience preparing geological materials and standards for microbeam analysis.
Experience developing/adapting methods to address specific microanalytical problems.
Experience using image analysis techniques.
Experience with basic maintenance of an Electron Probe Microanalyser, Scanning Electron Microscope or Transmission Electron Microscope.
Experience working on geoscience projects as part of a scientific team.
ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of graphical and numerical mineral chemistry data processing (e.g. mineral formulae, substitutions, etc.).
ASSET ABILITIES:
Ability to manage large datasets.
Ability to carry-out statistical analysis and modelling of datasets.
