Work environment

Virtual work arrangements may be available and will be determined on a case by case basis dependent on operational feasibility at the time of hiring and the position to be staffed. Some positions require the selected candidate to work in the office. This will be determined by the hiring manager based on the duties of the position to be staffed.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates and it may also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) within Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) in different locations with various language profiles and requirements (bilingual imperative BBB/BBB or CBC/CBC or English Essential) and various security requirements (reliability or secret).

EDUCATION:

• Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in resource management, physical or biological sciences, or any other environmental science relevant to the position (Environmental science may include biology, ecology, soil science, geology or geography).

*The term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Each of the following essential experience criteria requires a minimum of one (1) year work experience within the past six (6) years. This does not have to be continuous and can be an accumulation of experience.

• Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary team and with stakeholders in the management of projects and programs related to environmental protection.

• Experience interpreting and applying legislation or policy relating to the environment.

• Experience reviewing or writing technical reports, and providing advice and recommendations.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
•Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in a science domain relevant to the position.
•Post-secondary diploma in Environmental Sciences.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in working with Indigenous communities.

• Experience in identifying and resolving environmental compliances issues.

• Experience working with the federal contaminated sites procedures, guidelines and standards.

• Experience working on residential solid waste management projects.

• Experience in developing and maintaining effective collaborations with federal departments; provincial, territorial or municipal governments; First Nation governments or stakeholders; or industry to address multi-stakeholder issues.

Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
