Duties

Budget 2021 announced almost $48M over three years to support targeted research and development for upstream critical minerals processing and battery precursors and related materials engineering. We're seeking qualified candidates who are results-focused, collaborative and self-starters to join our team.

Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada and in the Federal Public Service with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), to staff positions with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
• Completion of post-secondary education with a specialization in mineral processing, chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience
• A minimum of three months experience in laboratory work in inorganic chemistry or mineral processing
• A minimum of three months experience in preparing samples and equipment for analytical, experimental or investigative studies in the natural, physical, or applied sciences
• A minimum of three months laboratory experience working with chemicals
• A minimum of three months experience in collecting, compiling and analyzing data from experiments in accordance with established procedures, standards, and specifications

• Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures
• Knowledge of mineral processing and metallurgy flow sheets
• Knowledge of collection, preservation and analysis of various metallurgical samples

• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to design, plan and select appropriate technical procedures, set up experimental apparatus, conduct experiments, prepare samples for submission to analytical laboratory, and perform routine laboratory analyses with precision and accuracy

• Experience in examining, validating and assessing the quality of data/data products

• The candidate must be willing and able to work in a laboratory and participate in field sampling
