The candidate’s duties will include sequencing samples of invertebrates and soil environmental DNA for DNA barcoding and metabarcoding; identifying invertebrates using a microscope; and collecting samples from agricultural landscapes in the Ottawa area.
The successful candidate will work at the AAFC ORDC, including the Canadian National Collection of Insects, Arachnids, and Nematodes, molecular laboratories, and field sites in the Ottawa area.

Education:
Currently enrolled or in process of enrolling in a Master’s program in a recognize post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Biology.
Experience:
• Experience* with DNA barcoding of invertebrates.
• Experience* using a microscope.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

• Knowledge in quantitative biology, ecology, and molecular biology.
Competencies:
• Attention to detail.
Abilities:
• Ability to use office software (Excel) for data entry.
• Ability to organize and interpret scientific literature (e.g. using a reference manager).
