Two candidates are sought to develop and undertake research programs in line with the mandate of the Department, respectively in the following fields:
1) Benthic sciences, which may include the biology, ecology and population dynamics of benthic crustaceans, the productivity and conservation of coastal benthic resources, the development of approaches to define fisheries reference points and the evaluation of management strategies for fisheries targeting benthic crustaceans.
2) Ecophysiology of marine invertebrates and fish in support of conservation and stock assessments in the context of climate change.
The incumbents plan, coordinate and conduct these research programs independently and in collaboration with existing teams. The incumbents interpret the results they obtain and write scientific articles intended for publication in specialized journals, as well as in technical reports. They provide scientific advice upon request to departmental authorities and make recommendations on matters falling within their area of expertise. They also participate in conferences and symposia, represent the Department on working groups related to their field and perform other related tasks assigned to them by the section manager.
The Maurice Lamontagne Institute is located in Mont-Joli, on the shores of the St. Lawrence Estuary, Quebec. As part of this hiring process, Fisheries and Oceans Canada will staff two indeterminate positions located at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli, Quebec.
A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in the Quebec Region.

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree (PhD) from a recognized university in ecology, biology or other related fields.
Research experience in the biology and ecology of crustaceans or other benthic invertebrates, in benthic ecology and/or in the assessment of benthic invertebrate stocks,
AND / OR
Research experience in the ecophysiology of aquatic invertebrates or fish.
Experience in the design, planning and implementation of scientific research projects related to aquatic resources.
Writing experience demonstrated by scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals in a field related to the position. A minimum of 2 publications in the form of articles in recognized scientific journals as first author during the last 5 years is mandatory to meet this criterion.
Experience in presenting scientific research results at conferences, symposia or scientific meetings.
Substantial experience in quantitative analysis and interpretation of complex data using analytical, mathematical or statistical techniques and tools.
Postdoctoral research experience.
Experience in developing and providing scientific advice.
Experience working with multidisciplinary professionals, including academics, non-governmental organizations or stakeholder groups on scientific research projects.
Experience in managing the financial and human resources components of a scientific research project or program.
Experience in supervising scientific and / or technical staff.
Experience in scripting or coding with R, S +, SQL, C ++, ADMB, TMB or other scientific programming environments.
Scuba diving experience.
Experience in carrying out scientific work in a laboratory, aquarium or mesocosm.
Experience in modeling population dynamics and / or physiological processes.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
