1. To enroll in and successfully complete university courses required for PhD program in Biology at the University of Ottawa;
2. To prepare biological samples as required by the experiment;
3. To assess or develop software, tools and/or pipelines (or tool chains) to analyze large genetics datasets;
4. To perform data analyses of large datasets to validate biological hypotheses;
5. To summarize and interpret results in the format of scientific manuscript(s) to be published in recognized peer-reviewed journal(s);
6. To write reports of research and to present the research findings at workshops, field days and scientific meetings;
7. To write and defend his/her PhD thesis; wherein, the report of the research carried out during the PhD project is reported.
Mostly computer-based activities performed in the office or in a tele-working environment, limited laboratory (equipment, chemicals & UV), field (UV) and phytotron based activities. The student is expected (1) to analyze data using various computer software and to develop pipelines for such analyses, (2) to assist in growing and caring for plants indoor and outdoor if needed, (3) to assist in sampling plant tissues and harvest seeds and (4) to aid in processing these samples in the lab applying various methodologies.

Education:
Currently enrolled or enrolled no later than the appointment start date (Sept 7, 2021) in a PhD program at the University of Ottawa, with specialization in Biology.
Experience:
Experience* in analyzing next generation sequencing data.
Experience* in the preparation of tables and figures for the production of scientific manuscripts as demonstrated by authorship in peer-reviewed journal(s).
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
