Duties

As a vessel maintenance manager, you will play a key role in ensuring CCG vessels are maintained and certified in accordance with Canadian regulations; contributing to technical standards and best practices across the CCG community; managing complex technical projects in the form of vessel refit and dry docking.

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a certificate (or higher) with a specialization relevant to the duties of the position (e.g. Naval Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Marine Engineering, or Small Boat Repair).
OR
A secondary school diploma (i.e. High School) combined with a Fourth Class Marine Engineering, Transport Canada Certificate of Competency or higher.
OR
An acceptable combination of education and experience gained through working in an industrial marine environment; vessel repair, construction, and maintenance; or heavy marine machinery repair, construction, and maintenance.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

At least five (5) years of experience in the operation, design, construction, maintenance, overhaul, or repair of ships/vessels or heavy marine industrial equipment.

Experience coordinating, tracking, monitoring and planning for financial resources for specific projects or initiatives.

EDUCATION:

Completion of a training program in Project Management (i.e. Certificate or Diploma) OR Project Management Professional (PMP) certified designation.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Greater than seven (7) years of experience in the operation, design, construction, maintenance, overhaul, or repair of ships/vessels or heavy marine industrial equipment.

Experience preparing and reviewing detailed Statements of Operational Requirements (SOR) or Technical Statement of Requirements (TSOR).

Experience as a Project Manager including managing projects and initiatives through its entire life cycle.

Experience providing technical expertise and advice for the assessment of vessel construction projects, vessel refits or vessel work periods.

Experience preparing proposals, work plans, risk analyses, financial reports and project progress reports.

Conditions of employment

Reliability or Secret Security Clearance depending on position being staffed.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Requirement to work overtime, as needed, to meet operational requirements.
Requirement to, occasionally, travel within Canada and abroad.
Requirement to, occasionally, go to sea in ships under trial.
Requirement to scale heights or work at height.
Requirement to access and move within narrow spaces, cramped quarters and steep ladders.
Requirement to access industrial work sites over rugged/uneven terrain, mobile equipment and excessive noise.
Requirement to carry a work cell phone.
Health Canada Pre-Placement Medical/Periodic Medical.
