SSO is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) and handles its own recruitment. For this reason, SSO uses a different staffing process and its terminology may not be the same.
SSO is Statistics Canada’s survey collection operation, which is a separate agency that is part of the federal public sector for which the management structure resides within Statistics Canada, but that is separate from Statistics Canada. SSO employs thousands of Interviewers across Canada. SSO Interviewers conduct over 2.5 million interviews with Canadians every year. The success of Statistics Canada’s surveys is due in large part to the trust Canadians place in our Interviewers. Statistics Canada’s commitment to Canadians’ confidentiality, privacy and secrecy is the cornerstone of our success with the public. It is central to the work we do.
In addition to hiring candidates to support the operational requirements of Statistical Survey Operations (SSO), we are also looking to hire Interviewers to help fight the spread of Covid-19 by working on the Contact Tracing initiative.
What is contact tracing?
Contact tracing, notification, and follow up is a process that is used to identify, educate and monitor individuals who have had close contact with someone who is infected with a virus. These individuals are at a higher risk of becoming infected and sharing the virus with others. Contact tracing can help individuals who have been in contact with a case of COVID-19 understand their risk and limit further spread of the virus.
Candidates may be offered positions as they are assessed, found qualified, and have confirmed their availability for mandatory training. In order to be considered first it is important to make yourself available for all assessments and training, as well as inform your references ahead of time that we may be contacting them.
We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request specialized accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.
Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.

We thank all those who apply. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
