Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory staffing process designed to create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff future permanent and/or temporary vacancies within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Calgary, Alberta.

The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION

• Successful completion of two years of secondary school, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.

*Candidates invited to an interview will be required to bring proof of their education credentials in the form of a diploma or official transcript.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

• Recent** experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Recent** experience entering data into a database or spreadsheet.

**Recent experience signifies within the last two years.

• Experience distinguishing between tire type (i.e. Summer, Winter, All Season), identifying tire sizing and changing tires.

• Experience conducting basic routine vehicle checks and maintenance including at least three of the following: topping up windshield wiper fluid, inspecting fluid levels (oil, brake, transmission, coolant etc.), checking tire pressure, replacing wiper blades, etc.

• Experience with battery chargers and boosting vehicles.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience providing administrative support services such as typing, photocopying and/or filing.

• Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving and/or destroying data.

• Experience providing services to internal and/or external clients over the phone, in person and/or in writing.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.

• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.

• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation, including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft, up to and including remote locations.

Conditions of employment

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

• Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s licence*.

• RCMP Reliability Status security clearance.

• Ability to lift up to 23kg.

• Willingness and ability to work for significant periods of time outdoors, including in inclement weather.

Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Security Clearance throughout their employment.

*Candidates may be required to provide a copy of their driver’s abstract.
