The Freshwater Habitat Science Section, of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Gulf Region, is based at the Gulf Fisheries Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Section provides information and advice to support the management of Freshwater Habitat. Successful management and conservation of this habitat depends on acquiring, interpreting and sharing ecological information.
This project will focus on American Eel. The objectives of this work are to assess hypoxia tolerance and the effects of low oxygen levels on eels. Hypoxia occurs across American Eel’s freshwater habitats, and will be exacerbated with climate change.
