The Director, Governance Policy and Implementation is accountable for:
• Ensuring compliance with the Act and the Regulations for elections held under the Indian Act;ertify returning officers;
• Training and certify election presidents;
• Providing support services to election presidents and regional staff;
• Advising the First Nations and support them in their efforts to develop and apply a customary electoral code;
• Helping First Nations adopt the First Nation Elections Act; lead the process of signing ministerial decrees;
• Supporting the First Nations in the development of bylaws;
• Carrying out regulatory adoption and modification processes;
• Responding to various requests from various sources: media, ATIP, Minister (briefings, notes, Question Period cards), Treasury Board, other departments and agencies, etc.
Indigenous Services Canada works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.
The process may be used to staff similar positions with Indigenous Services Canada and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada with various language requirements and profiles, and in various locations in Canada.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in establishing successful partnerships with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
Experience in providing guidance related to the running and monitoring of democratic elections or community-based decision-making processes in Indigenous communities or organizations.
Experience in providing strategic advice and briefings to senior managers.
Experience in managing human* and financial **resources.
NOTES:
*Some examples of managing human resources may include: supervising staff, establishing a vision, priorities, work plans or establishing work objectives, conducting performance assessments and feedback, approving training, demonstration of experience in managing various service delivery and resources allocation frameworks. Applicants must also indicate the number of staff they have supervised.
**Some examples of managing financial resources may include: full delegation for a budget, being responsible for financial planning, forecasting and reporting. Applicants must also indicate the size of the budget they managed directly.
