Duties

Plants, maintains, harvests and grades potato and rotation research crops. Operates specialized equipment such as tractors, tillage machines, diggers, planters, fertilizer spreaders, pesticide sprayers and fleet vehicles. Observes, inspects, identifies and records a variety of weeds, insects and diseases on research material in field crops. Collects, records and labels experimental data in accordance with research technician’s and supervisor’s instructions and guidelines. Maintains records of pesticides and nutrient applications. Services, repairs and maintains farm and plot equipment. Maintains and repairs work areas.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

A secondary school diploma, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in operating farm equipment.
Experience in the maintenance and repair of farm equipment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Possession of a valid Pesticide Applicators Certificate.

Experience in potato crop production
Experience in agriculture research.
Experience in using various hand and power tools (air and electric) used for woodworking and/or mechanical repair such as: hand tools, grinders, drills, air guns, saws.

Reliability Status security clearance

Valid New Brunswick driver’s license.
Ability and willingness to work with chemicals and pesticides.
Known allergies must be controlled through use of protective mask and/or medication and must not impinge on tasks to be performed.
Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions.
Perform physically demanding work activities including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 25 kg).
