This selection process will be used to staff positions within the Canadian Coast Guard in Victoria, BC. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

STREAMS 1 & 2:
Experience in general/semi-skilled construction and maintenance of equipment.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

English essential

Information on language requirements

STREAM 2 only:
Certification in one of the following: Class Three with Air Endorsement, Mobile Crane Certification or successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard Ridged Hull Inflatable Operators Training (RHIOT)

STREAMS 1 & 2:
Ability to communicate orally
Ability to communicate in writing

STREAMS 1 & 2:
Initiative

STREAMS 1 & 2:
Forklift Operators Certification

STREAMS 1 & 2:
Experience in field or remote site operations
Experience in the construction, modification, maintenance, repair, or life cycle management of CCG Aids to Navigation, associated facilities or assets
Experience in working with helicopters
Experience working at height
Experience working in the Pacific marine environment and basic seamanship

STREAM 1 only:
Experience following the occupational safe working practices with respect to commercial machinery and industrial facility equipment operations.
Experience in the safe operation of tools normally found in an industrial facility.
Experience in carrying out labourer duties as directed.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Class 5 driver’s license
- Valid Health Canada Medical
- Willing and able to travel for up to 3 week periods of time via trucks, boats and aircraft
- Willing and able to work weekends, overtime and travel on short notice
- Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions on land and at sea
- Ability to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m
