Assessment accommodation

Duties

Selected candidates will take on some of these and/or similar, roles depending on the team they join:
• Contribute to the preparation, integration and analysis of large volumes of data and analytics in the form of presentations, dashboards and placemats, for presenting/explaining the results of research and help telling the stories from the data we collect on foreign policy issues.
• Contribute to maintaining relevant data on a collaboration platform (e.g. SharePoint).
• Assist colleagues with language processing and/or other data analytics tools to analyze foreign policy issues and identify global trends for use in reports and briefing products for senior management.
• Participate in meetings with relevant stakeholders across the department and liaise with various divisions on data analytics work as required.
• Help develop visual dashboards on the new cloud analytics platform which would include active use of business intelligence (Power BI).
• Collect, validate and manipulate raw data, files, research, statistics, databases and other information for useable analysis by policy analysts. May provide advice to analysts seeking economic or socio-economic information.
• Support collection of data from various sources (e.g. official websites, expert and think tank studies, social media, ministerial statements and speeches, interviews, etc.) on key foreign policy issues.
• Support projects include analyzing program data and providing insights in support of program management needs such as performance management and resource allocation, identifying target audiences for communications purposes, and contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation.

EDUCATION

A full-time student registered in a post-secondary coop/internship program that is on our list of validated institutions and programs in one of the following fields: business administration, engineering, finance, economics, public administration, commerce, business intelligence/analytics, International relations, law, political science, international development or other related fields.

Degree equivalency

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• A combination of data visualization courses or knowledge of data visualization best practices and how to apply best practices to various software tools and programs (excel, Power BI, etc.).
• Data analysis skills with the ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret large datasets and databases from multiple sources to inform decision-making.
• Ability to interpret data for practical use/telling stories with data.
• Judgment, teamwork or problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience collecting, cleaning, preparing or analyzing unstructured data such as text, social media, video feeds or audio.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

• A combination of courses and/or experience in research and analysis to produce reports summarizing empirical findings.
• A combination of courses and/or experience with MS Dynamics 365.
• Experience using SharePoint.
