To be eligible for a public service job as part of this program, you need to meet these 3 requirements:
• You must be a full-time student* registered in a post-secondary co-op/internship program that is on our list of validated institutions and programs;
• Your work term must be mandatory for graduation;
• You must meet the minimum age required in the province/territory of work.
*Student must be returning to full‑time studies in the next academic year or if the student is in their final year of study, that they were previously employed under one of the approved student programs.
Selected candidates will take on some of these and/or similar roles depending on the team they join:
• Help develop visual dashboards on the new cloud analytics platform which would include active use of business intelligence (Power BI).
• Assist in designing and undertaking data analysis projects.
• Collect, validate and manipulate raw data, files, research, statistics, databases and other information for useable analysis by policy analysts. May modify methods and approaches to data collection within established precedents. May provide advice to analysts seeking economic or socio-economic information.
• Apply analytics and financial modelling across risk areas such as: Cash Management, High Risk Payments, Vendor Account Management, Financial Systems Access Roles, Assets and Liabilities Tracking, Locally Engaged Staff Payroll, Value-Added Tax paid by Canadian Missions; and the implementation of the “Sustainability Model for Financial Management”.
• Incorporate graphics in products and deeper analysis in country strategies and conflict analyses (i.e. economic data: population growth vs economic growth, poverty rate, unemployment, GDP, debt, trade and development).
• Help develop an automated dashboard, mining project data and country information to put together a library of stock of impactful facts/results to be use by the division.
• Assist colleagues with language processing and/or other data analytics tools to analyze foreign policy issues and identify global trends for use in reports and briefing products for senior management.

EDUCATION
A full-time student registered in a post-secondary co-op/internship program that is on our list of validated institutions and programs in one of the following field: mathematics, computer science, information technology, data science/data analytics, engineering, economics, statistics, finance, accounting, actuarial mathematics, demography/population studies or other related fields.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
**the candidate must meet at least 2 out of 5**
• A combination of courses and/or experience performing data integration, data manipulation, data analytics or in-depth analysis, towards producing data visualization products using a variety of techniques and tools, such as advanced functions in Excel, MS Dynamics, Power BI, R or Python.
• A combination of courses and/or experience in data analysis, quantitative analysis, business analytics or data science.
• A combination of courses and/or experience with analytical software (e.g., MS Access, Stata, SPSS Statistics).
• A combination of courses and/or experience creating automation tools or using natural language processing to analyze unstructured data such as text, social media, video feeds or audio.
• A combination of courses and/or experience programming, machine learning (e.g., natural language processing, classification, clustering, ensemble methods, deep learning) or data preparation (e.g., cleaning, merging, restructuring, reformatting, etc.)
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• Post-secondary level courses (university or college) and/or knowledge of data mining, data warehousing or geo-spatial analysis.
• Experience in manipulation of Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems (or other databases) or understanding of results-based frameworks.
• Experience using SharePoint.
• Experience creating presentations and knowledge of data visualization best practices.

These opportunities are for a period of 12-16 weeks beginning in May or June 2021, with the exact start date to be determined. Start and end dates may vary based on university/college policy and employment needs. There is a possibility of work term extension depending upon student availability, performance and employment needs.
A partially qualified pool will be created for various student opportunities. Other criteria may be required depending on the internship needs and tasks. They may be assessed at a later date through exams, interviews and/or reference checks.
