For positions at Pê Sâkâstêw Centre: Persons residing or employed in Maskwacis (AB) and within an 80 kilometer radius of Maskwacis (AB), extending to, amongst others, Edmonton (AB), Rosalind (AB), Red Deer (AB), Winfield (AB).

For positions at Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village : Persons residing or employed in Harrison Mills (BC) and within a 125 km radius of Harrison Mills (BC), extending to, amongst others, Metro Vancouver (BC), Princeton (BC), Kingsvale (BC).

The current pandemic situation has delayed the assessment process, but those who have previously applied remain active in the process and will continue to be considered.

The Correctional Service of Canada is seeking interest from persons looking for an exciting and rewarding career as a Correctional Officer II.

We also strongly encourage you to apply for the position of Primary Worker/Kiminisaw who have direct and daily contact with Women Offenders and for the position of Correctional Officer I.

For screening and assessment purposes, all communications related to this selection process will be by email. Therefore, candidates must include a valid email address in their application. Candidates who have passed all stages of evaluation and who are selected must complete the Correctional Training Program (CTP), which includes two online training phases, and a 14 week in residence training phase at the CSC Training Academy in Kingston, ON, Summerside, PEI or another training site.

ALLOWANCE FOR RECRUITS
Correctional Service of Canada recruits receive an allowance* of $400/week, up to a maximum of $5,600 for 14 weeks, during Stage 3 of the Correctional Training Program. This allowance, paid bi-weekly, is in addition to the meal and hospitality fees already covered for recruits at this same stage of CTP.

Indigenous candidates may be eligible for an allowance for participation in CTP Stage 3 through either the Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC) or a local Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISET) stakeholder. If you wish to reapply to a Correctional Officer II selection process, the retest period is 180 days from the date of elimination at either the written exam or interview/reference stage. There is also a retest period of two (2) years for the psychological assessment from the date of elimination. The psychological assessment for Correctional Officer II is also used for Primary Worker/Kimisinaw (women’s institutions) and Correctional Officer I ; as such the retest period would also apply to those selection processes.

You will not be assessed more than once in the same selection process.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
The candidates must obtain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) 'Level C' with automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate from a qualified provider approved by any province/territory in Canada, and in accordance with Part XVI of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The candidate must successfully complete the CSC Correctional Training Program (CTP).*

ASSSET QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree or a diploma in a field relevant to the work to be performed.
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree or a diploma.
Certification in a field related to conflict resolution, such as mediation, negotiation or alternative dispute resolution.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in a correctional, policing, security, military, or emergency response environment.
Experience working with people in conflict with the law.
Experience in working with diversity issues.
Experience in delivering education programs.
Experience in coaching, mentoring or supervising.
Experience in working in the social services field, such as addictions, mediation, family violence, mental health, crisis centres or shelters.
Experience working with Elders, Aboriginal peoples, communities or organizations.
Recent and extensive experience in performing correctional operational duties in a Correctional Service of Canada institutional environment.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Aboriginal history, traditions and culture.

ABILITY:
Ability to work in a culturally designed environment respecting aboriginal culture; including aboriginal ceremonies and protocols.

OTHER LANGUAGES:
Ability to communicate orally and/or in writing in a language other than English or French that is reflective of the offender population.

For positions at Willow Cree Healing Lodge - In accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement signed between Correctional Service of Canada and the Beardy’s and Okemasis Band of Indians (herein Beardy’s), preference may be given to Beardy members.

For positions at the Pê Sâkâstêw Center - In accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement signed between Correctional Service of Canada and the Samson Cree First Nation, preference may be given to Samson Cree members.

For position at the Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village - In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Correctional Service of Canada and the Sts’ailes Nation, preference may be given to Sts’ailes members.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must be able to work shifts, variable hours, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Employees may be required to work overtime.

Conditions of employment

DRIVER'S LICENSE:
Prior to appointment, candidate must possess a valid unrestricted driver's license that conforms to provincial or territorial requirements. As a condition of employment, candidate must maintain valid unrestricted driver's license throughout employment.

MEDICAL:
The candidate must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.

PSYCHOLOGICAL:
The candidate must also meet the psychological requirements determined by Correctional Service of Canada. Note: There is a retest period of two (2) years for psychological assessment from the date of elimination.

PREVIOUS ASSESSMENT RESULTS
Please note that if you have previously participated in a Correctional Officer II selection process with the Correctional Service of Canada, your results may be applied to the current selection process. This will be confirmed during the assessment stage of the selection process. You are required to submit an application to this selection process to be considered for further assessment.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
