This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex. Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory process to staff several ENG-03 positions.

A pool of qualified candidates may also be established through this process to staff similar ENG-03 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, energy engineering, oil & gas engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Recent* and significant experience** i) performing spectral analysis of results from; ii) developing; or iii) designing; spectroscopy-based analyzers related to gaseous air emissions;

Recent experience* planning and performing applied research, development or innovative design work related to gaseous air emissions from oil and gas industry-related sources or from other industries employing similar technologies;

Recent* experience preparing, reviewing or evaluating technical studies or reports, and communicating complex issues or project results to colleagues, superiors or experts in the specialty.

*Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last 7 years.

**Significant experience is defined as experience that would normally be acquired by doing the duties full time for a period of approximately 3 years.

A thesis-based graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Engineering or in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada.

Experience procuring and assembling systems suitable for operation in hazardous locations;

Experience using process simulation software suitable for oil and gas process modeling such HYSYS or UniSim.

Experience using MATLAB or Python for analysis of research data.

Knowledge of spectroscopy-based techniques for gas detection, speciation, and quantification;
Knowledge of engineering theories, principles and practices related to the measurement of gaseous emissions;
Knowledge of oil and natural gas industry emissions detection, quantification and speciation technologies and technology development.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing;
Ability to communicate effectively orally;
Ability to collect, compile, analyze, interpret, and report on engineering projects or engineering research;
Ability to install, calibrate, operate and maintain assorted air-emissions-related laboratory equipment such as flow meters and gas analyzers.

Thoroughness.

Knowledge of oil and natural gas production and processing practices and technologies;
Knowledge of domestic and international atmospheric emissions issues (political, economic, social, or scientific) associated with oil and natural gas production and processing;

Ability to develop and manage budgets;
Ability to use National Instruments hardware and NI-LABVIEW software for system control and data acquisition. This includes hardware set-up as well as the creation and subsequent usage of LABVIEW virtual instruments;

Willing and able to travel occasionally within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, and air;

Willing and able to work overtime upon request;

The individual is required to work in environments where a range of organic solvents, petroleum products, and other volatile organic compounds may be present, for example while performing field work at petrochemical facilities. The candidate must not have any chemical sensitivities that preclude working in such an environment;

Willing and capable of lifting up to 23 kg during field work.
