Duties

As a senior vessel maintenance manager, you will play a key role in ensuring CCG vessels are maintained and certified in accordance with Canadian regulations; contributing to technical standards and best practices across the CCG community and managing complex technical projects in the form of vessel refit and dry docking.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with diploma (or higher) in technology with a specialization relevant to the duties of the position (e.g. Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical, or Marine Engineering).
OR
A secondary school diploma (i.e. High School) combined with a Third Class Marine Engineering, Transport Canada Certificate of Competency or higher.
OR
An acceptable combination of education and experience gained through working in an industrial marine environment; vessel repair, construction, and maintenance; or heavy marine machinery repair, construction, and maintenance.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

At least seven (7) years of experience in the operation, design, construction, maintenance, overhaul, or repair of ships/vessels or heavy marine industrial equipment.

Experience managing financial resources which must include planning/forecasting financial needs as well as allocating and reporting on budget requirements.

EDUCATION:

Completion of a training program in Project Management (i.e. Certificate or Diploma) OR Project Management Professional (PMP) certified designation.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Greater than 10 years of experience in the operation, design, construction, maintenance, overhaul, or repair of ships/vessels or heavy marine industrial equipment.

Experience leading or supervising a multidisciplinary team including assignment of work and managing, monitoring, addressing and assessing performance.

Experience as a Project Manager including managing projects and initiatives through its entire life cycle.

Experience providing technical expertise and advice for the assessment of vessel construction projects, vessel refits or vessel work periods.

Experience preparing proposals, work plans, risk analyses, financial reports and project progress reports.

Conditions of employment

Reliability or Secret Security Clearance depending on position being staffed.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Requirement to work overtime, as needed, to meet operational requirements.
Requirement to, occasionally, travel within Canada and abroad.
Requirement to, occasionally, go to sea in ships under trial.
Requirement to scale heights or work at height.
Requirement to access and move within narrow spaces, cramped quarters and steep ladders.
Requirement to access industrial work sites over rugged/uneven terrain, mobile equipment and excessive noise.
Requirement to carry a work cell phone.
Health Canada Pre-Placement Medical/Periodic Medical.
