A written take-home exam will be distributed on February 4th, and will be due on February 7, 2021. Interviews will be conducted on February 10 and 11, 2021. Please ensure you are available on these dates.
At least two of the three references must be professional in nature.
The immediate intent of this process is to staff 1 position on a term basis (with the possibility to change to indeterminate), in Courtenay, BC and 1 indeterminate position, in Nanaimo, BC, although alternative work locations may be considered.
A pool of candidates will be established. The pool may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications within the department in various locations and/or tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointments, acting appointments and/or assignments.

EDUCATION:
- Graduation from a recognized school of veterinary medicine.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
- Eligibility for membership in a Canadian veterinary association.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience conducting necropsies, disease investigations/health checks and sample collection on finfish.
- Experience in production animal medicine, including the evaluation or design of biosecurity and health management protocols.
- Experience managing data effectively, and performing analysis.
- Experience interpreting and applying field observations, test results, and gross and histo-pathology to diagnose the presence or absence of disease.
- Experience in the management of human and financial resources (VM-03 only).
EDUCATION:
- A graduate degree in epidemiology.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience providing veterinary services for salmonids in intensive culture.
- Experience working in a regulatory capacity.
- Experience in veterinary pathology, epidemiology or other specialized field of veterinary medicine.
- Experience conducting research, studies, trials or publishing results in a field relevant to the position.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness and ability to conduct work out-of-doors under varying climatic conditions.
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations via boats, planes and vehicles for long durations.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.
- Willingness and ability to travel with occasional overnight stays.

- Knowledge of aquatic animal pathogens, pathology, and disease diagnostics.
- Knowledge of governing legislation and regulations in aquatic animal health.
- Knowledge of current practices and issues in aquaculture or salmonid enhancement within Canada.
