The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process will be created to staff current and future vacancies, and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent and temporary), various language requirements and profiles, and various security requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

-A secondary school diploma (High School) or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
-Completion of technical training through an apprenticeship (or equivalent) in a ship construction trade
-Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) 178.1 Level 1 Welding Inspector Qualification

Degree equivalency

Experience:

-Experience as a Journeyperson Welder, Weld Inspection or similar work
-Experience in ship construction, ship repair or ship inspection work
-Experience in the development of Weld Procedure Specifications and Qualifications
-Experience in use of Microsoft Office

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Qualifications:
-Completion of welding / structure / corrosion related American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) or NACE Qualifications
-Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) 178.1 Level 2 Welding Inspector Qualification

Degree equivalency

-Experience with repair and maintenance of naval vessels

-Must be willing and able to work and conduct surveys in small, enclosed, confined spaces for extended periods of time.
-Must be willing and able to climb ladders and work and conduct surveys at height (masts etc.)
