Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. The headquarters of CanNor is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. CanNor also has regional offices in Yukon and the Northwest Territories, and a liaison office in Ottawa.

CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for Northerners and Indigenous people, communities and businesses across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s six regional development agencies (less than 115 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic issues.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill (anticipatory) two (2) full-time indeterminate (permanent) positions in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Whitehorse, Yukon.

A pool of qualified candidates may also be established and may be used to fill similar positions, with varying tenures, in any of CanNor’s northern offices.

Education

ED: A secondary school diploma, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experiences

E1: Significant* experience in the delivery of community or economic development programs involving multiple stakeholders.

*Significant is defined as experience associated with full-time performance of duties for a minimum period of one year.

E2: Experience in providing written advice to senior officials** in support of program or project management.

** Senior official is defined as director level or equivalent and above.

E3: Experience in building and maintaining partnerships or stakeholder networks.

Education

AED: An undergraduate degree from a recognized university in Economics, Commerce or Business Administration, or other relevant specialization.

Degree equivalency

Experiences

AE1: Experience working with Indigenous communities and governments.

AE2: Experience in the management and/or administration of grants and contributions
programs.

AE3: Experience in working in a northern or remote environment.

AE4: Experience in analysis of annual reports AND financial statements of companies to identify trends in revenues, expenditures AND profitability.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

The incumbent and his/her dependants* must obtain Health Canada medical clearance in accordance with the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive.
