1. Care of livestock on a daily basis according to research protocols
2. Assisting with herd health including calving, weighing of animals, tagging, etc.

The immediate need is to staff one permanent position at the Research and Development Center in Nappan, Nova Scotia (NS)
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent and temporary needs) as well as various linguistic requirements.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Experience:
Experience in farm animal husbandry including feeding, weighing, handling and health care of livestock in a research environment (clearly indicate in your application where you gained this experience in a research environment).
Experience operating farm equipment (please provide a list of all farm equipment you have operated on your application).
Experience in production, harvest and conservation of various forage and grain crops.
Experiences (assets):
Experience with maintenance/repairs on farm machinery.
Experience in the collecting and storing of samples.
Experience in artificial insemination techniques for cattle.
Experience in estrus synchronization of cattle.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
Knowledge of farm animal husbandry in a research environment
Knowledge of the practices involved with the safe and humane handling of cattle.
Knowledge of grain and forage production and harvest methods.

Possession of a valid Skid Steer Certificate
Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Class 3 or Class 1 Drivers License or equivalent.
