In all areas of our business, each one of us has a role in supporting the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in operations. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team. Together, DND and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) create the largest, most complex organization in Canada. DND's role is to provide services and support to the CAF in their operations and missions at home and abroad. DND and the CAF work side-by-side to fulfill the Government of Canada’s mission to defend Canada and Canadians and contribute to international peace, security and stability efforts.
This process may be used by the Department of National Defence to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates. It may be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures, language profiles, security requirements, and conditions of employment. Please note that candidates may be required to pass further assessment in order to meet qualifications specific to the position to be staffed.

A covering letter in 5,000 words (maximum) "Tell us what stream or streams you applying for and how your education and experience would contribute to DND. Clear and concrete examples are defined as illustrations in which you fully explain the actions, considerations and steps you completed in order to gain the experience you are describing. This detailed contextual information will be used by the board members reviewing your submission to assess whether you have sufficient experience in a relevant field to complete the tasks which will be assigned to you should you be considered for this position. This is similar to what would be expected of you when asked to provide a concrete example of a particular situation in the context of an interview. In order to facilitate this process, you may wish to start your submissions with a sentence similar to: “A clear and concrete example of a situation where I did X is a situation which occurred on Y date and my role in this activity was to...”. Resumes will be used as a secondary source of information and strictly to validate the concrete examples you will have described."
EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
EXPERIENCE
Additional qualifications may be required for some positions and you may be contacted and asked to submit information or to be further assessed.
EX1. Significant* experience working in an Information Technology (IT) environment.
EX2: Experience providing specialized technical advice to management and clients on complex IT issues.
EX3. Experience preparing technical documents such as but not limited to business requirements, testing plans, etc.
EX4. Experience representing an organization on committees, working groups, or other collaborative initiatives and providing advice and expertise on the topics.
*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex related activities for approximately three (3) years.
Successful completion an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
Occupational certification: Various requirements depending upon the positions to be staffed. Professional certification or diploma relevant to the stream for which you are applying.

EXPERIENCE

AE1. Experience working in a military environment.
AE2. Experience leading IT project teams.
AE3. Experience working with clients and stakeholders on multi-disciplinary teams to develop Information Management (IM)/Information Technology (IT) solutions to meet business needs.
AE4. Experience leading investigations of security incidents/violations and the implementation of corrective actions.
AE5. Experience in developing and maintaining security documentation such as security standards, guidelines, user manuals.
AE6. Experience in IM/IT support requirements analysis activities.
AE7. Experience in financial management including budget planning, resource tracking and financial prioritization activities.
AE8. Experience in the creation of business cases or cost analyses associated to IM/IT projects or initiatives.
AE9. Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting and resolution of IT issues.
AE10. Experience managing or supervising an IT work team.
AE11. Other relevant experience depending upon the position to be staffed.
