Testimonial of Gabriel Nirlungnayuq, Regional Director General of the Arctic Region:
“As an Inuk living in the Arctic for my entire life, I know personally that the programs and services provided by Fisheries and Oceans Canada directly impact the people living in our northern communities. I am proud to work with the dedicated employees of DFO to deliver these programs. I also know that we must continue to listen very closely to northerners so that we can improve and implement the programs they need.
As this unique Region continues to be formed, I am looking for motivated leaders to join me, including individuals who are passionate about the north and those who recognize the critical importance of DFO’s work to all of us. Are you one of those leaders?”

Millions of Canadians live in coastal areas, and marine and freshwater resources are among the country's greatest natural assets. Fishing and shipping are not only important industries for Canada but are also a part of its heritage. Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s mandate, programs, and services directly affect the livelihoods of thousands of Canadians in ocean and freshwater industries throughout Canada, from fishing and marine transportation to tourism and recreation. More generally, these programs and services affect the economic, social, and cultural fabric of Canada.
The creation of the new Fisheries and Oceans Canada Arctic Region was announced in 2018. This new Region is being built in partnership with Inuit, First Nations, Métis, and Northerners. The major goals of the new Region include a better alignment of Fisheries and Oceans Canada's programs and services with Northern priorities and advancing reconciliation through a collaborative approach.
As an executive in the Arctic Region of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, you will have the exciting opportunity to participate in, and lead, the implementation of this new Region, creating and delivering programs and services that are relevant and critical to northern communities.
The immediate need is to staff three (3) positions on an indeterminate basis. Two (2) are located at Iqaluit, Nunavut and one (1) is located at Inuvik, Northwest Territories.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada will be pleased to share the name of qualified candidates with other Federal organizations operating in Northern Canada.
