Duties include operating tug boats as either the Master or Mate in harbour or coastal waters providing support to DND ships and shore facilities in Halifax Harbour, Bedford Basin and local areas.
The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.
The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A pool of candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions at the same or equivalent group and levels with various tenures and security profiles.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Master 500 Ton certificate.
EXPERIENCE:
Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in the navigation and operation of Small Vessels.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience operating harbour tugs.
Experience in managing personnel.
Experience in towing.
English essential

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Harbour Tug Propulsion systems.
Knowledge of Halifax Harbour and Approaches.
ABILITIES:
Ability to stand a bridge watch.
Ability to adapt to handling harbor tug operations with or without a pilot.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Reliability Status security clearance
Must be available to work unexpected and scheduled overtime as required.
