Work environment
The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DNDs role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency Master 500 GT Domestic or higher.
Radio Operator Certificate-Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC).
EXPERIENCE
Watchkeeping and Command experience within the last five (5) years.
Experience in supervision of ships’ crews.
Experience operating coastal vessels under 500 GT.
English essential

Occupational Certification:

Current Marine Advanced First Aid Certificate.
Experience:
Experience operating towing vessels employed in BC coastal waters.
Experience operating Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs.
Experience in supervision of ships' officers.
Experience in managing a budget under the Federal Financial Administration Act.
Experience working in a military environment.
Organizational Needs
In support of Strong, Secure, Engaged (SSE) initiative #24, consideration may be given to the spouses or common-law partners of CAF members..
Operational Requirements
Must be willing and able to travel as required
Reliability Status security clearance
Conditions of Employment
Must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.
Must be available to work both scheduled and unplanned overtime as required by naval operations.
Willingness to work for long periods in exposed locations in all weather conditions.
The wearing of safety footwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Must be available to work away from homeport for periods up to 10 days.
Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate.
