Isolated Post Allowance may be applicable. Depending on location of residence, whether the employee has dependents and lives in staff housing, this allowance ranges from $2.56 to $22.68 per hour.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Candidates with experience or interest in boating activities and in first aid.
The following will be applied / assessed at a later date:
Demonstrating proof that you are an Indigenous student:
who is currently registered full-time in a recognized post-secondary institution (CEGEP, college and university) or other ongoing educational or training program;
OR
who is returning to full time studies at a recognized post-secondary institution or other ongoing educational or training program in the next academic term.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The programs below are operated by the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) under the Search and Rescue (SAR) Program. Students are hired and trained each summer to become members of an Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) crew or part of an Arctic Community Engagement and Exercising Team. Crews in both programs operate on a rotating schedule of up to 28 consecutive days of work followed by up to 28 days of rest.
PROGRAM 1 - INSHORE RESCUE BOAT NORTH
• Conduct marine SAR operations in response to marine medical and vessel emergencies, on a 24/7 basis;
• Participate in completing diverse tasks, including but not limited to seamanship, radio communications, log keeping, helm and lookout duties, and continuous maintenance of the IRB station, small craft rescue vessels, and equipment;
• Participate in training with government and non-government organizations.

PROGRAM 2 - ARCTIC COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EXERCISING TEAM
• Assist with the delivery of classroom and on-water training and exercising in a number of Arctic communities;
• Provide boating safety education and demonstrations to the general public;
• Participate in community engagement sessions, highlighting the Canadian Coast Guard and the programs and services it offers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The employment duration is full-time during the summer (late-April to early-September 2021) under the condition of successful completion of the mandatory training prior to the operational season. Training will commence in late-April 2021. Program assignments will be announced upon successful completion of pre-season training and will be based upon operational requirements. Therefore, preference of program cannot be guaranteed. Once selected into the program, the candidate may participate in the program for up to two (2) seasons after the successful completion of their studies.

Reliability Status security clearance
Medical Fitness of the Health Canada Occupational Health Assessment, Category 2-XII-1 or Transport Canada Marine Medical is required for all operational personnel engaged in search and rescue services.
Must be willing and able to travel.
Must be willing to wear a uniform and personal protective equipment.
Must be willing and able to work at any assigned station or training location.
Must be willing and able to accept on-call duties.
Must be willing and able to work overtime.
Must be willing and able to accept a time on / time off work schedule.
Must be willing and able to work in adverse conditions such as those found in the marine environment.

If required, travel expenses to/from the location of operations or training activities to the student’s residence will be reimbursed.
Meals and accommodations will be provided for all students while on-cycle and during pre-season training in 2021.
Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
