Essential Qualifications
EDUCATION
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a member of a Provincial Society of Certified Engineering Technicians or Technologists.
OR
An acceptable combination of relevant education, training, and experience related to construction projects and associated environmental approval conditions.
Watercourse and Wetlands Alteration Certification recognized by the New Brunswick or Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Local Government.
EXPERIENCE
Experience managing construction projects requiring the implementation of approval conditions issued under a NB or NS Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Permit.
Experience managing civil construction crews utilizing heavy equipment engaged in road maintenance, soil stabilization, and snow removal activities.
Experience in identifying road maintenance issues and making critical assessments.
Experience in the planning and design of horizontal infrastructure within Provincially mapped watercourses or wetlands.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
Note: Experience is defined as having at least 3 years working in this area of expertise.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of workplace safety programs, equipment and practices.
ABILITIES/ SKILLS
Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering plans or drawings.
Ability to interpret and apply erosion prevention/sedimentation control measures, and environmental protection principles.
Ability to plan construction projects.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Education
First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Workplace Hazardous Material information System Certificate.
Experience
Experience supervising, managing, evaluating and motivating employees working in a unionized environment.
Experience or training in Hazmat and spill response
Experience with the use of surveying equipment for the purpose of generating Engineered horizontal construction designs.
Experience navigating roads / terrain with the use of maps, compass, or GPS.
Experience networking with external agencies to accomplish work objectives (Department of Environment and Local Government, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Contractors, etc.)
Experience producing reports – Quantifying and organizing data for management.
Experience budgeting and resource levelling for large civil construction projects.
Operational requirements
Must be willing and able to travel as required by the employer.

Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability security clearance.
Possession of a Province of New Brunswick Class 5 Drivers License or other provincial/territorial equivalent.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DND 404 driving permit.
Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Must be willing and able to work overtime as required by the employer.
Must be willing and able to work in extreme weather conditions and navigate over hilly and rugged terrain.
Must be willing and able to lift objects up to 50 lbs from the floor to shoulder height.
