Indigenous Services Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances. The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Indigenous Services Canada supports the delivery of primary care, public health, home care and health promotion services on reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit people regardless of residence.
The Regional Offices are located in downtown Edmonton and are within easy access of St Albert, Leduc, Morinville and Fort Saskatchewan. Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta and has a population of over 1,000,000 people. Alberta’s remote and isolated First Nation communities are in the High Level area which is located approximately 750kms north of Edmonton. Populations in these communities vary from 700 members to greater than 2000 members.
The intent is also to staff positions via the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program (APEP), which aims to strategically increase Aboriginal representation within the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB). As such, Organizational Needs may be applied and first consideration may be given to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal Peoples.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.
Occupational Certification:
• Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
• *Recent and **significant experience in delivering public health nursing and prevention programs.
• *Recent experience working in the field of communicable disease control and immunizations.
*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years.
**Significant is defined as consisting of at least 3 cumulative years of experience with the candidate performing complex activities relating to the provision of Public Health, and/or Primary Care.
Operational Requirements:
• Valid Driver’s Licence
• Overnight travel, for one or more nights, may be required.
• Willingness to travel including travel to remote areas, on gravel roads and in small aircraft
• May be required to work overtime on weekdays or weekends

Education:
• A Master’s degree in Nursing or applicable sciences in a field related to health from a recognized university.
Experience:
• Experience in developing resources for the public and health care professionals.
• Experience in training front line staff.
• Experience in developing, planning, and/or delivering community health and primary care programs and services.
• Experience in the administration of and documentation of immunizations for all ages.
• Experience in the management and follow up of communicable diseases.
• Experience in working with or in First Nations communities.
