Duties

The duties of the position are varied, and all relate to the management of Intellectual Property. They include include negotiating research, material transfer agreements, and license agreements; managing a portfolio of technologies including protection efforts and commercialisation; and providing advice to senior management as well as provided advice ant and training to the scientific community.

The Public Health Agency of Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) provides scientific expertise and laboratory capacity for infectious disease monitoring, detection, investigation and outbreak response to support national and international public health action. Intent of the process

The immediate intent is to staff one (1) full-time permanent position and three (3) positions on a determinate basis for a period of 1 year with possibility of extension.

Telework is an option for this opportunity.

A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments) as well as various security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in economics, business administration, engineering, sciences, or in other disciplines relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
E1 Significant and recent* experience in the practice of technology transfer
E2 Significant and recent* experience in the conduct of activities related to the management of intellectual property

* Significant experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities of varied complexity which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately one (1) year.
Recent is defined as relevant experience gained within the past five (5) years.

E3 Experience drafting and negotiating business agreements with academia, public sector organizations or the private sector.
E4 Experience working with scientists on projects to protect or commercialize technologies.

Ability to develop and evaluate policies, standards, procedures and guidelines relating to the management of IP.
