You will work in a park like setting at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) Campus in Dartmouth which offers FREE PARKING. Check out www.bio.gc.ca to learn more about our amazing Campus.
BIO is easily accessible for those who commute from either side of the bridge and beyond, and is also serviced by Metro Transit’s route #51. We also offers many workplace wellness initiatives such as aerobics, Zumba, yoga, Aikido, Circuit/HIIT, croquet, table tennis, the BIO community garden, walking trails and is next to Shannon Park's Canada 150 Trail that offers spectacular views of Halifax Harbour in both directions!

This selection process will initially be used to staff one, term position in Dartmouth, NS. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to fill similar positions of various tenures and security requirements.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution (college or university) with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position; or
• Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience analyzing and interpreting or applying legislation, policies and procedures governing occupational health and safety.
• Experience conducting worksite analysis, identifying hazard prevention and controls and assessing for compliance.
• Experience establishing requirements for health and safety training.
• Experience administering OHS requirements in an operational environment.
• Experience conducting occupational health and safety investigations or risk assessments in the workplace.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experiencing applying OHS regulations in a shipyard or marine environment.
Secret security clearance
• Requirement to occasionally travel to remote locations, using helicopters, boats and other modes of transport.
• Requirement to observe and inspect operational settings sometimes involving climbing, noisy environment and boarding vessels.
• Requirement to occasionally work irregular hours and overtime.
• Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
• Possession of a valid Drivers’ License for the purposes of driving rental cars and departmental vehicles.
