Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

The positions are for one or more of the following locations. You must indicate clearly in your application for which(s) location (s) you are submitting your application:

1. Dorchester Penitentiary: Dorchester Penitentiary is a multi-level security male facility located in the community of Dorchester, New Brunswick, next to the Village of Memramcook. Dorchester Penitentiary has medium and minimum-security level sites and a multi-level Regional Treatment Centre (RTC).

2. Regional Headquarters: The Atlantic Regional Headquarters is located in Moncton, New Brunswick. Our staff are dispersed to three buildings in the city at 1045, 859 and 777 Main Street in Moncton, NB.

3. Moncton Parole Office*: Moncton, New Brunswick.

4. Fredericton Parole Office*: Fredericton, New Brunswick.

5. Saint John Parole Office*/ Parrtown Community Correctional Centre**: The Parole office* is located in Saint John, New Brunswick and Parrtown Community Correctional Center is at the same location.

* Community parole officers supervise offenders serving community sentences who are on parole, statutory release, or long-term supervision orders to ensure that they adhere to the conditions of release set by the Parole Board of Canada (PBC). As an administrative assistant in a parole office, the incumbent of the position deals, at times with the public and offenders.

** A Community Correctional Centre (CCC) is a federally operated community-based residential facility that provides a structured living environment with 24-hour supervision, programs and interventions for the purpose of safely reintegrating offenders into the community.

Education:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience providing administrative or clerical support services in an office environment.
(Defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties on a continuous basis over a period of approximately three months, within the last five years, including any work placements.)

Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Post-secondary education in a field related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience preparing meeting minutes.
Experience researching, extracting and compiling information from various sources.
Experience in the preparation of correspondence.
Experience in the preparation of reports.
Experience arranging work-related travel.
Experience in data entry.
Experience using a database and/or software applications for report creation.
Experience working in a correctional environment.
Experience providing clerical/administrative support services to management, such as monitoring and managing their electronic inbox and managing their calendar.
