Duties

The selected person will be in charge to carry out carpentry maintenance service, including repair, renovation and restoration of buildings and infrastructure for Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

Work environment

The Technical Services and installation, Quebec Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment where the mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio in an operational environment. We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Quebec. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only those.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) French Essential position at Cowansville. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and could be used to staff similar positions, with various language profile, within Correctional Service Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:

Possession of a valid Journeyman Certification as a Carpenter or Joiner, issued by a Province or Territory of Canada or the Inter-Provincial Standard (Red Seal) Endorsement for Carpentry or Joinery.

Experience:

*Significant experience in the renovation or the reconfiguration of institutional or commercial buildings.

*Significant experience in the maintenance or the installation of commercial or institutional architectural building’s components such as doors, door hardware, locks, cabinets, windows and floor covering.

*Significant experience in the fabrication of wooden work or work combining different material types such as wood, metal, plexiglass/lexan for institutional or commercial buildings.

*Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties on a regular and continuous basis over a period of approximately 5 years.

Education:

Secondary School Diploma.

Successful completion of any work related continuing education courses related to the maintenance of architectural building’s components.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience in the maintenance or the installation of detention locks.

Experience supervising individuals.

Experience training individuals.

Experience working in a correctional facility.
