In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

CERTIFICATION:
Valid provincial or interprovincial general carpenter licence, certification of qualification.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in maintaining and repairing buildings and structures.
- Significant experience* in working as a General Carpenter on construction projects including residential and commercial.
- Experience in using industrial woodworking equipment.

*Significant experience means experience the breadth and depth of which is normally gained by performing a wide range of tasks over five (5) years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in preservation and restoration of heritage conservation and antique furnishings and/or products.
- Experience in woodworking involving the use of valuable exotic woods.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the procedures and techniques used in quality wood construction and in the fabrication of a variety of wooden structures.
- Knowledge of different types and properties of wood.

ABILITIES:
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
- Willingness to accept occasional exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and extreme weather conditions.
- Candidate must be willing and able to work in and around a construction site environment, climb ladders and scaffolds as required.
- There is a frequent requirement to work overtime on regular workdays as well as on weekends, and to work on special projects and prepare for state visits or ceremonial events.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - This factor is not used at the preselection stage. The hiring department is responsible for the security clearance process.

- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s licence.
- Must be willing to undergo a medical check-up on a yearly basis.
- Must comply with all safety requirements and regulations re: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety training
