This project involves examining the geothermal energy potential associated with fluid production from basement rocks underlying the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The study will focus on cores from southern Saskatchewan. The workflow involves examination of basement cores to assess rock type, age, fracture systems, and history of hydrothermal alteration. Water rock interaction with basement rocks will be assessed at in situ temperatures and pressures, involving both a computer modeling and experimental approach.
The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science (MSc) degree with specialization in Geoscience at the University of Calgary.

• Currently enrolled or willing to enroll as a full-time student at the University of Calgary in a Master of Science program with specialization relevant to the duties of the position, such as Geoscience.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Science or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.
In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
