Assessment accommodation

The Office of Boating Safety (OBS) is looking to fill one GT-04 position; a Boating Safety Officer is needed to do outreach to the public, stakeholders, multi-governmental and enforcement partners. The outreach includes delivering educational presentations on boating safety practices over the phone, via technology or on the dock, at community events and in-person with small or large groups. The Boating Safety Officer will also train enforcement partners such as RCMP, DFO and Conservation Officers how to apply the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and Small Vessel Regulations and community volunteers how to perform safety checks. OBS is about to kick-off the outreach program on boating safety practices for the next two year - Come join us!

Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

*Recent and significant experience in conducting research, carrying out analysis and making recommendations
* Recent and significant experience in writing of reports or editorials or education materials
* Recent and significant experience in using Microsoft Office; specifically, Power Point, Excel and Word
** Recent and significant experience working with Indigenous or Metis communities.

• Willing and able to travel by helicopter, small aircraft, vessel and special purpose vehicles in various weather conditions and over various terrains.

• Willing and able to work overtime, including weekends and/or irregular hours on short notice.
• Possession of a valid Provincial/ Territorial driver’s license.
• Possession of an approved Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC).
