Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent, temporary, or casual basis with various security requirements and language profiles. - Possession of a valid Class “AC” driver’s license with a “Z” Airbrake endorsement issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent.

- Experience in the operation of a tractor trailer.
- Experience driving highway cruisers.

Depending on the position being staffed, any of the qualifications below may be deemed as an essential “must have” or an asset qualification “nice to have” (see Note):

- Successful completion of secondary school education.
- Graduate of an approved/recognized vocational program for trucking.

Degree equivalency

- Possession of a valid Certificate of Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Possession of a valid Air Brake Instruction certification.
- Possession of a valid Driver Examiner qualification.
- Possession of certification or completion of training in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

- Experience with Aviation Fuel testing.
- Experience driving various configurations of refueling trucks.
- Experience in long haul driving.
- Experience in the transportation of dangerous goods.
- Experience working in a DND/CAF transport unit in a military or civilian capacity.

- Ability to perform fuel testing such as clear bright conductivity tests, the hydro kit test, or the paste test.
- Ability to operate a tractor trailer.
- Ability to communicate in writing.

Note: Managers may add to these qualifications as needed for the specific position being staffed.

Operational Requirements:

For all positions, the following will be required:
- Willingness to work overtime, shift work, and call backs.
- Willingness to attend and successfully complete applicable trade related training selected and scheduled by the employer.
- Willingness to wear all required personal protective equipment.

For some positions, one or more of the following will be required:
- Willingness to perform a variety of physically demanding tasks including but not limited to lifting up to 30kg.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
- Willingness to travel (may include travel to United States destinations).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

For all positions, the following will be required:
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s permit (DND404).
- Willingness to wear all required personal protective equipment.

For some positions, one or more of the following will be required:

- Willingness and able to travel (may include travel to United States destinations).
