Devise methodologies for collection, archiving and automated processing of acoustic data in order to have data readily available for pelagic fish stock assessment and ecosystem monitoring activities. Duties will also include the calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of acoustic data collection systems used on Science vessels as well as towed or moored systems used with chartered vessels.
This process will be used to staff one term PC-03 position. Successful candidates will also be placed into a pool of qualified personnel that may be used to staff similar or lower level positions on a temporary or permanent basis in St. John’s, NL at a later date. This process may be used for acting opportunities for current employees of the Public Service of Canada.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in natural, physical or applied science with two years specialization and/or post graduate training in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience developing and operating integrated computerized marine scientific sampling systems.
Experience planning, organizing and conducting at sea testing and/or calibrations of marine scientific instrument systems.
Experience in software application development or adaptation to support collection and processing of data from ship-fitted and mission specific scientific instrument systems.
Experience working with electronics, computer operating systems and computer networking.
Experience working as a team leader during field work.
Experience as lead author in preparation of scientific or technical reports or papers.

Graduation with a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Experience working at sea in a range of sea states for extended periods of time (an extended period of time is defined as > 5 days).
Experience in the study and application of hydroacoustic theory, methods and analytical methods used in fisheries stock assessment, ecosystem investigations or fish behaviour studies.
Experience designing code and debugging software to view, manipulate, filter and integrate data streams from multiple marine scientific instruments.
Experience working collaboratively with members of the larger scientific community.
Experience in data management in a work or research environment.
