Research Assistant - Research Affiliate Program

The student must be willing to work from June 30, 2020 to June 30, 2022. It is expected that the student will work 12.5 to 13.5 hours a week.
$22.04 to $27.73 per hour (Salary will be determined by the student’s education and relevant experience.)

Duties

Characterize critical flow fields affected by sea level changes in Dykeland ecosystems in Nova Scotia. Determine effects of climate change and associated sea level changes on salinity intrusions on culturally/economically important agricultural lands, and ecologically important marsh/wetlands. Determine where improvements in water flow control structures (sluices) is required to meet agricultural and ecological endpoints necessary to ensure ecosystem function and resilience.

EDUCATION
Currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Civil/Resource Engineering at Dalhousie Univ.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in hydrogeology
Experience in field hydrological measurement techniques
Experience in hydrological modeling
Experience in coastal water resource research

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Knowledge of computer programming and numerical hydrogeological modeling complex coastal environmental systems.

Ability to create web-based programs, data visualization, and to use application program interfacing.
Ability to conduct field work using hydrological/hydrogeological instrumentation.
Ability to conduct geophysical and thermal surveys and measure resistivity profiles using time domain techniques.
Ability to stream gauge and use remotely deployed water quality sondes and tide and wave pressure loggers.
