Duties

- Leading experimental projects under guidance of AAFC scientists to conduct research and experiments.
- Integrate research and industry feedback to evaluate need/gap assessment for future crop operations in Manitoba.
- Supervise program technicians and provide guidance for field crew operations.
- Preparation of reports, and contribution to proposals and research papers.
- Maintains quality control and troubleshoots issues to ensure accurate results.
- Provides advice to research scientists, management and industry partners.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of potato breeding activities at Manitoba Research and Development Centre, regional trials for potatoes and other research activities.

Intent of the process

To staff a full-time permanent position.

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position (crop, horticultural or soil science or agronomy).

IF YOU HAVE FOREIGN CREDENTIALS, please follow the link below for information on how to obtain a degree equivalency. You must obtain an equivalency, at your own expense, in order to be considered for appointment into the public service.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the planning of research projects and in the execution of research work in crop production or agronomy.
Experience interpreting research findings, writing research reports and presenting research findings to scientific, industry and producer audiences.
Experience in agricultural technology transfer related to crop production or agronomy.
Experience in the supervision of staff.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Graduation with a postgraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience in horticultural crop production (potato) and Agronomy.
Experience with irrigation of field crops.
Experience in providing scientific/technical advice and knowledge transfer to stakeholders including producers, industry, and scientific colleagues.
Experience in managing multi-year projects with associated human resource, budgetary, and planning functions.
