Duties

The position is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, configuration, implementation, installation and providing technical support for a variety of equipment and systems including but not limited to: land mobile radio systems, land mobile radio subscriber equipment, remote mountain top repeater equipment, solar power systems, and radio dispatch consoles. The work involves occasional heavy lifting, working outdoors in adverse weather conditions, and travel throughout service area (i.e. Ontario and Quebec) occasionally for extended periods, including travel via helicopter or fixed wing aircraft.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill two (2) English Essential indeterminate vacancies in Newmarket, Ontario.

The intent is also to fill two (2) Bilingual Imperative (BBB/BBB) indeterminate vacancies in the province of Quebec: one in Montreal and one in Quebec City.

A pool of candidates may be established and used for future staffing.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

E1 Experience implementing and maintaining modern radio/ data communications system equipment.

E2 Experience working with modern electronic test equipment used in the land mobile radio field.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.

3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness and ability for occasional travel as required, sometimes on short notice including overnight.

- Willingness and ability to work overtime to support operational activities and/ or systems, sometimes on short notice.
- Willingness and ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment (minimum 50 lb. / 22.68 kg.).
- Willingness and ability to wear CSA-approved footwear and any other personal protective equipment (PPE) required
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence
