Duties

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, provides reference and research services, develops and delivers training programmes, indexes military literature, and creates and manages web-based products and services.

Intent of the process

To staff one position for an Indeterminate period in Toronto, Ontario.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within the Department of National Defence. Location, linguistic and security profiles and/or requirements as well as tenures (term, indeterminate, casual) may vary according to the position being staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
-Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a master’s degree in library science, or in library science and information science; or Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a bachelor’s degree in library science, or in library and information science for which another bachelor’s degree was a prerequisite.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
-Recent and significant experience in the provision of reference and research services in an academic or special library environment.
-Recent and significant experience in web product creation and maintenance in support of information services delivery.
-Recent and significant experience in planning, organizing and delivering training and presentation, and in marketing library services and products.

-Recent* refers to experience normally acquired within approximately the last four (4) years of work.
-Significant** experience is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of those duties on a regular basis for a period of approximately six (6) months.

Asset Qualifications:
-Graduation from a recognized university with a second degree in political science or modern history.
-Recent and significant experience using web authoring tools.
-Recent experience in management and supervision.
-Recent experience contributing to a learning management system.

Conditions of employment

Operational Requirements:
-Willing and able to travel on occasion, depending on the position being staffed.

-Shift work including a minimum of one evening shift per week and rotational weekend service (usually Sundays).
-Willingness to work overtime.
