Intent of the process

he intent is to staff one (1) position (permanent, full-time) in Iqaluit with Natural Resources Canada. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar ENG-04 positions at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)with various tenures (determinate or indeterminate), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, et c.), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mining engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada

EXPERIENCE:
–– A minimum of five years of professional experience in the heavy equipment industry either with engine/vehicle manufacturers, mining companies, specialized consulting firms, within research centres and/or technical universities;
̶̶– Within the last five years, experience in conducting engine test programs for emissions compliance, calibration or certification; technical surveys in the field, scientific research work, or field instrumentation and monitoring, as applied to the heavy equipment or mining industry;
– Experience in planning, organizing and completing research projects;
– Experience in supervising and training technical staff;
– Experience in preparing detailed reports, scientific papers, and/or publications with respect to heavy duty equipment and/or mining vehicles.

- Of engineering practices and technologies used in the heavy-duty equipment and vehicle powertrain testing, calibration and certification. ;
- Of trends, development and emerging technologies in Canadian mines with respect to mining vehicle powertrains;
- Of codes, standards and regulations which apply to the Canadian mining industry with respect to underground mining vehicle powertrains.

ABILITIES:

- Masters or Ph.D. degree from a recognized university in engineering or applied science in the fields of mining engineering, geological engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position;

- Significant experience in mining vehicle powertrain evaluation and/or design, or underground mine ventilation engineering as it pertains to Canadian mining operations in hard and soft rocks;

- Knowledge of underground mining infrastructure as well as mobile and stationary underground mining equipment.
