Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff two (2) permanent positions in Borden, Ontario.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions.

Education:
Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Degree equivalency

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience working in a fire department as a firefighter on a full time basis or as a volunteer

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Information on language requirements

Occupational Certifications:
OC 1 – NFPA 1001 Level II
OC2 – NFPA 472 Operational level
OC3 - NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator
OC4 – Valid Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder and CPR or other provincial/territorial equivalent
OC5- Valid, unrestricted class DZ driver’s license issue by the province of Ontario or provincial/territorial equivalent

Knowledge:
Knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques and equipment related to the firefighting trade as contained in the IFSTA essentials of Fire Fighter: 7th Edition

Abilities:
A1 – Ability to communicate effectively orally
A2 – Ability to pass Canadian Forces Fire Marshal Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation

Personal Suitability:
PS1 - Effective Interpersonal Relationships
PS2 - Dependability
PS3 - Initiative
PS4 – Judgement

• NFPA 472 HazMat Technician Level
• NFPA 1003 Airport Fire Fighter
• NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level 1
• NFPA 1051 Wild Land Fire Fighting or province of Ontario SP 100 Provincial Wild Land
• NFPA 1006 Rescue Technician
• NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I

Operational Requirements:
Willingness to participate in a firefighter physical fitness and maintenance program
Willingness to work shift work, weekends and holidays

Conditions of employment

Conditions of Employment:
• Reliability clearance
• Must meet and maintain the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with the Treasury Board Guidelines (Candidates will be required to undergo an pass a pre-placement occupational health evaluation before an appointment can be made)
• Must maintain a valid, unrestricted class DZ driver’s license issue by the province of Ontario or provincial/territorial equivalent
• A current and acceptable Driver’s Abstract
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver’s license
• Must wear and/or utilize Personal Protective Equipment in compliance with safety regulations or policies
• Must be able to work shift work, weekends and holidays
• Must reside within 125 km of Canadian Forces Base Borden and be willing and able to respond to emergency call ins
