The Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMF CB) provides agile and flexible quality engineering and maintenance services to the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), and to also provide unique support to other National Defence stakeholders.
Example responsibilities of the Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic include:
• Service, maintenance and installation of various domestic, commercial, industrial and marine refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
• Service hydronic systems, high purity electronic cooling and dehumidification systems.
• Complete high capacity ODS (ozone depleting substances) recovery, reclaiming and recycling.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff two indeterminate positions. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within various units and locations with the Department of National Defence.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Occupational Certification:
-Possession of a Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal) as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic

AND

-Possession of a Certificate of Apprenticeship in the field of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Experience:
- Experience and/or training in all aspects of Refrigeration

Asset Qualifications:
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs (such as Outlook, Excel and Word)
- Experience at a marine shipyard working on shipboard refrigeration systems
- Experience on Canadian Frigate refrigeration systems
- Experience on Canadian Submarine refrigeration systems

Operational Requirements:
- May be required to travel
- May be required to work in extreme weather conditions

Conditions of employment

- Various security requirements (Reliability/ Secret)
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain a DND 404 driving permit
- Required to work overtime and shift work.
- Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
- Required to climb vertical ladders, and also access cramped and/or confined spaces.
- Required to work in High Hazard Industrial Environment that contains noxious fumes.
- Required to lift and carry heavy objects, tools and equipment (up to 25 kgs) throughout worksite and up/down ladders.
- Required to conduct at-sea trials in naval vessels, occasionally over a period of days.
