Intent of the process

At this time, there are two (2) vacancies in Edmonton, Alberta.

Applicants are encouraged to apply ONLY if they are willing and able to work in or relocate to Edmonton, Alberta.

Candidates from outside the federal public service will be required to pay for their own travel (including travel for assessment purposes), and may be required to pay for their own relocation expenses.

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM) for similar positions with various tenures (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

**Note that the completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary education program in any electronic engineering technology will be accepted as a relevant specialty.

Degree equivalency

• *Significant experience in the electronics technology field, with emphasis on security systems.

• *Significant experience in the installation, programming and maintenance of technical equipment, such as computerized access control systems, intrusion detection systems and closed circuit video systems.

• **Recent experience in electronic security such as software applications, security networks and specialized interface hardware.

•**Recent experience in electronic system performance analysis, problem analysis and documentation.

*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

**Recent refers to experience gained within the last five years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

• Certification in either alarm or Voice/data/video disciplines.

Degree equivalency

• Experience and/or training in locksmithing, including the installation and service of physical security hardware such as mortise locksets, cylindrical locksets, electric strikes and exit devices.

• Knowledge of electronic access control, intrusion detection systems and video surveillance technologies.

• Knowledge of national and provincial building and electrical codes and legislation.

• Knowledge of electronic security network configurations and communication protocols.

• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot application software, hardware and firmware problems and to recommend appropriate solutions.

• Travel frequently throughout all Alberta.

• Periodically travel in Canada to assist on major event security deployments.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a RCMP Top Secret Security Clearance throughout their employment. This requires a Security/Reliability Interview, and a field investigation in matters of Criminal Activities, credit/finances, education, employment, reference, etc.

• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.

• Travel as required.

• Work outdoors in various inclement weather conditions.

• Climb ladders and work at height.

• Work in confined spaces.

• Lift boxes or equipment up to 23 kg.

In accordance with paragraph 8(2)(a) of the Privacy Act, information or material, whether provided directly by the candidate or otherwise obtained by the selection board, used during the selection process for the purpose of assessing a candidate may be used as part of the selection review and recourse processes. Such relevant information may be provided to third parties, such as other candidates or their representatives, who have a legitimate reason to be aware of that information.
