Duties

Community Health Nurses working in home care deliver comprehensive nursing services to First Nations communities. They provide in-depth nursing knowledge, skills, clinical expertise and advanced judgment through consultation, clinical practice, leadership, and facilitate knowledge transfer through health promotion and disease prevention, providing care in the home.

Work environment

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous Peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.

The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch supports the delivery of primary care services on-reserve in remote and isolated areas, where there are no provincial services readily available.

Education:

Graduation with a Bachelor of nursing degree from a recognized post-secondary institution

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:

Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in Saskatchewan.

Experience:

Experience in nursing

Knowledge of home care nursing theories, practices, principles and procedures related to the provision of home care
Knowledge of client assessment and charting
Knowledge of nursing scope of practice issues, home and community care based programs, adult wellness

Conditions of employment

Reliability/Security Clearance
Possession of a valid driver’s licence or personal mobility to the degree associated with possession of a valid driver’s licence
Travel (using government fleet vehicles) to First Nation communities to deliver front line health services to First Nation clients
Overtime in the event of a Public Health emergency or outbreak
Continuous professional registration, in good standing, with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association
