The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff this or similar positions within the Canadian Coast Guard in the Atlantic Region on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, deployment, secondment, or assignment basis.

Education
A secondary school (high school) diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Occupational Certification
Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Certification as a Heavy Duty Automotive Mechanic
Experience
Experience in the provision of maintenance work and assistance to different trades
Experience working in an operational site where multi-trades are working simultaneously
Experience in field/remote site operations dealing with diesel engines
Occupational Certification
Valid Fall Protection Certificate
Valid Rope Access Certificate
Valid Marine Radio Operator’s License
Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
Valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
Valid First Aid Certificate
Valid General Rigger Certificate
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) Certificate
Experience
Experience in working with helicopters for transportation, construction activities and or logistic support
Experience using Maximo
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge
Knowledge of basic procedures and tasks involved in servicing diesel engines.
Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment that apply at a work site.
Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used in an industrial operations environment.
Ability
Ability to diagnose and complete effective repairs to diesel/gasoline equipment
Ability to operate a computer using MS Office software (such as Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer)

Valid Provincial Class 5 Driver’s License
Climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m
Travel for extended periods of time to remote sites via; trucks, boats, UTVs, snowmobile and aircraft
Work overtime as required, including weekends
Travel on short notice
Access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions
