Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff an indeterminate position within PSPC Pacific Region. The pool may be used to staff permanent or temporary (such as a specified period appointments, indeterminate or casual) Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Secondary school diploma or employer approved alternatives such as an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

BC/Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician and/or
BC/Interprovincial Red Seal Automotive Service technician

Experience working in the mechanical maintenance of industrial plant equipment (such as mobile cranes, self luffing cranes, work boats or other types of plant equipment)
Experience working with other trades in self-directed work teams.
Experience working in an industrial or Ship Yard environment.
Experience in scheduling mechanical maintenance projects
Experience conducting inspections of mechanical parts and components.

Conditions of employment

Possession of a Driver’s Licence, valid within the Provinces/Territories of Canada
Medical suitability
Willing and able to work at heights in excess of 200ft.
Willing and able to enter confined spaces.
Willing and able to wear all applicable personal protective equipment
Willing to work shiftwork, overtime and weekends

Possession of airbrakes endorsement.

Experience inspecting and or testing cranes
Experience operating a fork lift.
Experience operating work boats/tugboats.
Experience ordering/controlling supplies.

Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic procedures.
Knowledge of diesel engines.
Knowledge of installation methods and techniques used when replacing fixtures, clutches, pneumatic operating systems/parts, motors, gears in systems.
Knowledge of disposal methods of contaminated waste and material.

Abilities to supervise non-trade staff.
Ability to determine work methods for the maintenance of cranes and plant equipment.

Placement of PSPC employees affected by work force adjustment. Placement of employees subject to current or future reorganization.
